You will answer one of the following three questions. Use both primary and secondary sources from Section Seven to Section Twelve to make your argument.
- Throughout the second half of this course, we have seen the many ways in which the United States’ government shaped, and continually re-shaped, society from the 1930s to the 1980s. Explain the shifting attitudes Americans held towards government. Discuss actual government programs and initiatives to demonstrate your point.
- Throughout the second half of this course, we have talked about the many ways in which global history and American history are interconnected. Global politics (war, diplomacy, technology, economics, treaties, etc.) have influenced American lives at home. Using Section Seven to Twelve, explain what you think were the major global events of this period that altered and influenced American society and politics.
- From the Great Depression onward, the United States evolved into a more democratic society relative to the pre-1929 United States. For example, the political power and economic independence that women, people of color, and working-class families gained during this period increased significantly. Using Section Seven to Twelve, explain how and why they gained more power in American society, but also explain the limitations to their progress.
