Your Report’s goal is to chronicle the history of the student organization that began as the Gay People’s Alliance, changed it to Lesbian & Gay People’s Alliance (and other name changes over time). Your main (and perhaps only) source is the Hatchet. You will do keyword searching there, using your phone as I showed you. Remember that you can search for only one word at a time (e.g., gay), or you can search for a short phrase if you put it in quotation marks, e.g., “Gay People’s Alliance.” Note that it is searching for the exact string of characters, so you might need to do separate searches for homosexual, homosexuals, and homosexuality. Each will produce different results. Note that by searching “Gay People’s Alliance” we found something like 176 results between 1971 and 1992. You could just start from that search and see how many of those articles you can get into the spreadsheet. Your Research Report will follow the assignment format, except that the annotated bibliography will be replaced by a spreadsheet with the following headers (note I added to fields that I think will be helpful and easy to do): Date Writer (if name given) Article Title Type of article (e.g., news, editorial, opinion, advertisement, etc.) Summary (one or two sentences–be sure you use your own words, or else quote directly with quotation marks) Names, where you will list the names of any LGPA members mentioned in the articles (apart from the writers). URL link to the Archive.org page Keyword (listing the keyword you used to find this article). Please also add a column for  This section can be a Google Sheet linked from your report, shared with me and with any peers doing peer review. At some point, I’ll need ownership to transfer it to the archive. Also format a printable version and make that part of the PDF of your Research Report. Your Prior Scholarship seciton must summarize the prior student essays and research reports dealing with LGBTQ students. Your Narrative will summarize what you find here, telling us the story of the organization, as best you can piece it together from the articles you find. This is a very important project, and I hope it aligns with your interests enough to keep you focused in working on it. It will be very beneficial to other researchers.
